Back to Basics

Are you a newly registered patient or looking to learn more about mmj and it’s effects? Our back to basics posts will inform you on the variety of forms of medical marijuana available to you as a PA MMJ patient. Inhalation or the act of inhaling is a fast acting form of relief that is great for patients who need almost instant relief. Since smoking medical marijuana in PA is prohibited by the Department of Health inhalation would directly relate to the act of inhaling a disposable pen, cartridge, concentrate or flower following the vaporization of the product. Vaporizing flower or dry leaf heats the plant material to a temperature that creates a vapor consisting of the cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids of cannabis without burning the plant matter which would release carcinogens. Vaporization is said to be a healthier option for patients. For most patients the onset of the effects of will take anywhere from 15 seconds to 15 minutes. Once the patient begins to feel the effects after inhaling and exhaling, the peak or intensity of the effects will last about 10 minutes. Relief received from inhalation or vaporization will last on average 1-3 hours making it an effective way to medicate for patients who need immediate to short-term relief from chronic pain, nausea, tremors, anxiety and much more. The downside to inhaling mmj products is the possibility of lung irritation and is not recommended for patients with known lung issues including COPD.
